Putting the âRegionalâ in Regional Resilience Collaborative â an Update from Centralinaâs RRC
Upon identifying a significant gap in disaster recovery processes, the Centralina Economic Development District (EDD) embarked in a collaborative process that connects the region in developing long-term disaster recovery plans. In April 2021, the EDD partnered with Centralina Regional Council and the nine-county emergency management (EM) directors to launch the Regional Resilience Collaborative (RCC) program.

This is handled by the 12 subcommittees of the Appropriations Committee that are in charge of deciding how federal funding will be distributed among all programs within all federal agencies. The process officially starts with the Administration submitting to Congress the Presidentâs budget for that fiscal year. The Presidentâs budget details a vision for spending, but Congress decides where the money will flow.

On Friday, May 28, President Biden sent Congress a $6 trillion budget request for FY22. This is the Biden Administrationâs first full budget, detailing the framework version that was outlined on April 9. It is also the first budget in ten years without spending caps in place.

In late October, the North Carolina General Assembly approved new district maps for the upcoming 2024 election. As required by the North Carolina Constitution, the state legislature draw districts from which representatives and senators are elected, including members of the United States House of Representatives. Following each decennial census, district maps are redrawn in a process known as redistricting.
Pre-Disaster Recovery Planning in Anson County
September was National Preparedness Month, the perfect time for Centralina Community Economic Development (CED) staff to travel to Anson County to collaborate on pre-disaster recovery planning. Centralina CED, Anson County Emergency Management, staff from various departments within Anson County and subject matter experts from Innovative Emergency Management partnered with critical private-public entities to learn about how they may collaboratively inform economic resilience for their communities.
Cabarrus County Task Force Helps Protect Seniors from ScamsÂ
All too often, we receive news reports about scams and fraudulent schemes that target older adults, at times with devastating results to an individualâs financial well-being and quality of life. The Cabarrus County Task Force to Prevent Abuse of Older and Disabled Adults is working to change that, and Centralina Area Agency on Aging (AAA) has been an integral part of the Cabarrus task force efforts since its inception in 2010.  This article details recent data on scams involving older adults, a recap of the 2023 Cabarrus County Scam Jam and provides resources you can use to help prevent, identify and report fraud.
