Centralina Receives EPA Grant for Brownfields Projects

Centralina Regional Council has received grant funding through the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to be put toward brownfield revitalization projects throughout our region’s communities. Special guests from EPA’s Region 4 office visited Centralina on October 15, 2024 to recognize Town of Spencer, City of Albemarle, City of Kannapolis and City of Mount Holly for the work they’re doing to turn former development sites into local resources.

With EPA’s brownfields assessment selection grants, funded by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, Centralina will conduct environmental site assessments, develop 10 cleanup plans and two area-wide plans, and support community engagement activities.

“Centralina is thrilled to launch our Regional Brownfields Program to support environmental stewardship and community economic development across our region,” said Geraldine Gardner, Executive Director of the Centralina Regional Council. “We are especially excited to partner with the municipalities of Mt. Holly, Spencer and Albemarle to support the clean-up and transformation of brownfield sites into assets for their communities.” Â
