Ever wondered what the friendliest town in North Carolina is? It might just be right here in the Centralina region! The Town of Stanfield, located in Stanly County, is described on the community website as a “safe, peaceful town tucked away from the fast-paced hectic world.” You won’t find any fancy shops or stoplights, but you will discover a community with rich history and gracious locals who will be happy to show you around and make you feel right at home. An old community song, titled “Carolina in the Morning”, encapsulates the welcoming attitude of the locals and leaders, saying…
“Nothing could be finer than to be in Stanfield now when it is growing.
A small town deep within the country and a lot of hospitality.
Building plans for future growth to make our life all happy, wise and healthy.”
The town name comes from an engineer who helped to complete the railroad line from Raleigh to Charlotte in 1912, thereby establishing the town. Stanfield was officially chartered by the North Carolina Legislature in 1955. In that same year, a post office was erected, which is still in operation in the original building to this day. Over the years, with the completion of the railroad, more people began to settle in the new community. With that growth came the establishment of places like the Love’s Chapel Methodist Church, various schools, parks, stores and local businesses. The town is now home to more than 1,500 residents and is working on controlled development projects to keep the community growing and competitive economically.
Whether you’re a resident or visitor, there for a short visit or a lifelong journey, Stanfield has something to see or do for anyone of any age. The town is situated within just a few hours of the mountains and the beach, along with easy access to larger cities like Charlotte. If you’re looking to stay active, take the family to Pete Henkel Park for a game at one of the sporting fields or a nice stroll on one of the marked trails. A popular spot in town is Log Barn Park, where visitors can enjoy a meal at one of the picnic tables or relax in one of the rocking chairs on a nice day. If you enjoy searching for vintage finds, check out West Stanly Christian Ministries. The shop proceeds all go to various charities in the community to support families in need.
Stanfield is one of Centralina’s newest member communities, and we were fortunate enough to meet with Mayor James Kluttz through our 55th Anniversary Regional Road Trip tour to discuss the communities’ top priorities for the year and how our team can help support their growth and success. Some of what was discussed includes Stanfield’s interest in making improvements to their parks, revitalizing the downtown district, updating murals and extending various trails. We look forward to seeing how this small but mighty community continues to grow and are excited to see how we can collaborate to help expand opportunity and improve quality of life for residents and visitors to Stanfield for years to come.
