New Member Spotlight: Town of Peachland

The Town of Peachland, boasting a population of just over 400 individuals, has a long and rich history dating back to a century before its official formation on March 31, 1895. This community, situated just off US-74 in western Anson County, served as a vital waypoint for travelers en route to the Anson County Courthouse in Wadesboro during the late 1700s due to a vital spring nearby that supplied fresh water. Named after the peach orchard of the community’s very own Pad Gray, the community found their name in 1888 and has stuck with it ever since.

Peachland has worked hard to create and provide popular amenities for both residents and visitors alike, with its crowning success being Peachland Park. The park, known as Peachland’s “pride and joy,” was financed by a match from a state trust fund. The park ended up being a total community effort from all the town’s citizens. The park is an inviting and well-furnished attraction that boasts a paved pathway, fields for both soccer and baseball games, a sprawling playground and restrooms and picnic shelters for those staying for longer.

There are two famous “all-American” restaurants within the community: Allen’s Restaurant and Jon G’s Barbeque. Allen’s Restaurant boasts a robust, hearty menu with plenty of southern soul food dishes available seven days a week for travelers and locals alike to enjoy – the steak rib-eye and banana pudding come heavily recommended. Jon G’s Barbeque is a restaurant frequently packed out – they are open only on Saturday mornings, with the lines featuring travelers from across all of North Carolina. Reviewers are quick to recommend the Cheerwine sausage and the Jalapeno Cheese Grits as sides, stating that all the entrees are “the way to go.”

The Town of Peachland has historically been a vital waypoint for those traveling to and from, and while the nature of it has changed, it continues to serve as an excellent example of what small communities are capable of and the unique attractions only they can bring to the region. We hope you will join us in congratulating the Town of Peachland for being Centralina’s newest member and we look forward to celebrating their 125th anniversary next year on March 31st, 2025!
