On October 9, 2024, Centralina hosted a Fall Celebration and Awards Ceremony at Atrium Ballpark in Kannapolis, NC. This event highlighted the work of our organization and member communities, in addition to several people and programs that have made an exceptional impact in our community over the last fiscal year.
Improving Quality of Life is a Region of Excellence award category that celebrates the towns, cities and counties that demonstrate commitment to creating a great place for people to live, work and play. Communities across the region are dedicated to providing a quality of life that enables all people to have the amenities, services and opportunities they need to thrive.
Supporting Local Needs
In 2021, the Town of Indian Trail received $12.7 million through the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) to offset negative effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. Of this amount, $10 million was used to support non-profits and service organizations throughout the community. Since 2022, the Town has assisted numerous non-profits, service organizations, schools and first responders in providing additional resources to residents in Indian Trail and Union County, focusing on the most vulnerable populations, including children, senior citizens and those experiencing food and shelter needs.
In order to make this possible, the Town developed a six-member, employee-led internal ARPA committee that managed the entire process. This committee was responsible for everything from selecting recipients to purchasing and delivering items to support their operations. Using an internal committee saved taxpayer dollars and helped the Town establish relationships with the leaders of recipient organizations. In addition to the internal committee, the entire Town staff volunteered to assist with shopping for requested items, loading trucks and delivering donations to the recipient organizations, giving employees an opportunity to give back while encouraging team building and boosting morale.
Some of the donations made by the Town included firetrucks for the three volunteer fire departments, water lines for Indian Trail residents in the Emerald Woods subdivision, food-related items for local food banks and support for the homeless and those experiencing crisis.
