Centralina Workforce Development Board Recognizes Outgoing Board Member, Brenda Speece

At the June 8, 2021, virtual meeting, the Centralina Workforce Development Board (WDB) presented long-time Board member Brenda Speece with the Bob VanGorden Leadership Award. Brenda is the Executive Director of the Children’s Homes of Iredell County. She has served on the Centralina WDB since June 2011. Brenda is a tireless advocate for young people and has served on the Board’s NextGen Council.

Centralina WDB Executive Director David Hollars presented the award to Brenda Speece at the Children’s Homes office in Statesville on June 16. “Brenda Speece has been very supportive of the work of the Centralina WDB for years,” said Hollars. “She has provided insight into the needs of youth in our region and direction for services. We truly appreciate everything she has done, and we wish her the best for the future.”

The Bob VanGorden Leadership Award is named for former Centralina WDB member and chair Bob VanGorden who embodied the words on the award “Leader, Visionary, Friend.”  The award recognizes outstanding Board members who have made significant contributions to the continued success of the Centralina WDB.

The Centralina WDB also recognized the following outgoing Board members at their June meeting – Fernando Little (Atrium Health – Cabarrus County), Rich Money (NCAE – Iredell County) and Mandy Mills (Stanly County Schools – Stanly County). The Board thanks each of them for their service and their commitment to workforce development.
