Filling a Critical Gap in Older Adult Home Care

On October 9, 2024, Centralina hosted a Fall Celebration and Awards Ceremony at Atrium Ballpark in Kannapolis, NC. This event highlighted the work of our organization and member communities, in addition to several people and programs that have made an exceptional impact in our community over the last fiscal year.

Recipients of the Region of Excellence award in the category of “Aging in Action” serve as a leader in impacting communities so adults can age with choice, dignity and independence. Awardees implement programs that demonstrate a commitment and contribution to older and disabled adults.

About Carrie Black

In 2020, Carrie Black launched Integrity Home Mobility, Inc., combining her expertise as a physical therapist assistant with her newly acquired general contractor license to fill a critical gap in home care. Through her unique fusion of healthcare and construction knowledge, Carrie created a full-service company focused on helping older adults live safely and independently in their homes.

Serving over 270 clients across eight counties in North Carolina— including Iredell, Rowan, Lincoln, Cabarrus, Stanly, Mecklenburg, Union and Anson—Integrity Home Mobility partners with Centralina Area Agency on Aging to deliver home modifications and essential repairs that reduce fall risks and hospitalizations. The services include installing grab bars, handrails, handheld showers and motion-sensor lighting, as well as addressing structural issues like loose stairwell banisters, damaged flooring and water leaks. newly installed home ramp

What sets Carrie apart is her ability to assess each individual in their home environment, identifying hazards by observing their movement and routines. Her keen eye and empathetic approach make her a trusted partner for both clients and Centralina staff. In cases where communication barriers exist between care managers and clients, Carrie steps in to ensure that vital safety services are delivered without delay.

Carrie’s dedication extends beyond physical repairs. After completing the Matter of Balance training through Centralina, she now leads coaching classes and educational sessions at local senior centers to spread awareness about fall prevention and aging-in-place strategies.
