MacLeod Construction Provides Concrete Evidence of a Sustainable Future

Established in 1993, MacLeod Construction is a concrete and construction company with a penchant for progress. North and South Carolina customers are served by MacLeod’s concrete flatwork, poured walls, foundations and most recently, its ready-mix supplies. Increasing demand for concrete and construction services in the Charlotte region coupled with industry investments and government incentives has allowed MacLeod to capitalize on alternative fuel vehicles such as compressed natural gas (CNG) vehicles that use clean, abundant, natural gas for fuel. In addition to CNG vehicles, MacLeod has become one of the first companies to utilize safer and more efficient front-discharge concrete trucks for delivery. MacLeod is now operating approximately 35 fleet vehicles and is considered an innovator of construction and concrete services in the Charlotte region.

Despite its recent accomplishments, Macleod is not planning so slow down with its sustainable endeavors anytime soon. The company has made plans to cut its total greenhouse gas emissions by 50-52% by 2030 in response to goals of Executive Order No. 246, which was signed by North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper. In an interview, MacLeod President Bob MacLeod stated that “CNG [is] very efficient. There is the benefit of consistent supply [and] we are not dependent on some of the fluctuations you see in the diesel market.” This consistency in onsite operations allows MacLeod Construction to offer competitive rates to costumers while saving resources across its operational frameworks. With alternative fuel vehicles, MacLeod Construction has demonstrated its dedication to environmental protection and planning and has solidified itself as the example for sustainable practice within the industry.

MacLeod construction is just one example of how the use of domestic fuels and advanced vehicle technologies help promote sustainability and resilience. The Centralina Clean Fuels Coalition is working with companies like McLeod Construction, community leaders and other stakeholders to further goals for a more sustainable region.
