Michael Manis is the Director of the Centralina Community Economic Development department. He provides more than 40 years of experience in management and coordination on federal, state and local levels in a variety of municipal and private development arenas. As Director, Michael facilitates access and support of multiple federal agencies and North Carolina funding opportunities, grants and administrative resources for the regional units of government and economic agencies.
Michael led the economic component group of the 2012-2014 $5 million HUD Sustainable Communities Planning Grant for the greater Charlotte bi-state region involving over 85 municipal jurisdictions. He also serves as President for the Centralina Economic Development District, a public-private 501c(3) nonprofit designated by the US Commerce Economic Development Administration as the federal Economic Development District (EDD) for the Centralina region. The EDD promotes regional retention, expansion and the development of business and industries. The EDD also manages “Prosperity for Greater Charlotte”, the region’s Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS) plan covering a five-year period from 2017-2022.
Michael was accredited by the International Economic Development Council in 2006 as a Certified Economic Developer, CEcD. He is a graduate of the Economic Development Institute of the University of Oklahoma and received his B.S. in Business Administration, cum laude, from the University of South Carolina with dual majors in Business Economics and Real Estate.
