Union County Notice of Funding Availability

Union County is officially launching its FY 23-24 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program via the attached Notice of Funding Availability (NOFA). This allows the County to accept competitive grant applications for eligible programs and projects. The County received $1,115,096 CDBG allocation for FY 2022-2023. The new allocation for the upcoming fiscal year has not been released by HUD. It is anticipated that the County will receive approximately $1,000,000 available for fiscal year FY 23-24. The County Manager’s Office will review project submissions and make funding recommendations to the Union County Board of Commissioners. The funding is available in a limited target area. Eligible neighborhoods and/or beneficiaries must be located in Monroe, Marshville, Stallings, Waxhaw, Wingate, Weddington, Fairview, Wesley Chapel, Indian Trail and Mineral Springs or the unincorporated portions of Union County.

PROGRAM GOALS:

1)           Improve public facilities and infrastructure;

2)           Provide public services for low-income residents;

3)           Create intergovernmental coordination for community development;

4)           Ensure equal access to housing opportunities; and

5)           Strengthen economic opportunity through business and job creation.

ELIGIBLE ACTIVITIES: To be eligible for CDBG funding consideration, projects must meet one of the following three national program objectives:

1)           Benefiting low- and moderate-income persons; (see attached 2021 HUD Income Limits)

2)           Aiding in the prevention or elimination of slums and blight; or

3)           Urgent need (i.e., emergency assistance for disaster relief).

SUBMISSIONS: Proposals for projects must be submitted to the County no later than Tuesday, February 28th, 2023, at 5:00 P.M.
