Centralina Regional Council seeks a creative, well-organized and customer-service oriented individual with a strong background in local government policy and administration for the position of GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS AND MEMBER ENGAGEMENT (GAME) COORDINATOR. The GAME Coordinator provides technical services and engages member governments to increase Centralina’s profile as a resource to our members, regional stakeholders and state, federal partners. The successful applicant will also work within the organization’s cross-departmental teams to develop a strong working knowledge of Centralina’s services, operations and policy areas. Demonstration of innovative communication and marketing skills is a plus.

Description of the Work:
Major duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Contributing to technical assistance projects for local governments on a range of public administration, human resources and strategic planning topics.
  • Serving as a liaison to select member governments by leading regular engaging, managing the intake of member inquires for support/services and tracking the impact of Centralina’s local government support portfolio.
  • Participating in the planning and implementation of GAME programs, workshops and/or training, including but not limited to Centralina Learns, the Small Towns Initiative, Regional Managers and Centralina Women’s Leadership Initiative.
  • Contributing to the organization’s intergovernmental affairs agenda by supporting the implementation of Centralina’s federal advocacy agenda.
  • Identifying and synthesizing best practices in public administration and management for Centralina’s publications and professional development programming.

Desired Knowledge, Skills and Abilities include but are not limited to:

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with local, state and federal officials, community and business leaders, contractors and the general public
  • Knowledge of local government systems and processes, general planning principles, and project management processes.
  • Knowledge of meeting facilitation techniques and/or mediation, negotiation and diplomacy skills.
  • Considerable knowledge of computer applications including Microsoft Office 365 Suite
  • Individual must be very detail oriented and be able to prepare and maintain accurate and detailed notes and records
  • Must possess excellent organizational skills and have the ability to ability to multitask and manage multiple and simultaneous priorities
  • Knowledge of basic editing in the AP-style and ability to use correct grammar, vocabulary, and spelling
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with internal teams

Minimum Experience at a Glance:
Bachelor’s degree in public administration, political science, business, communication or related field and 3 to 5 years’ experience in local government and community relations or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Hiring Salary: $52,000 – $56,000 depending on experience with excellent benefits including NC Local Government Retirement System, 401k, medical, dental, vision, etc.

Applicant must have the ability to lift 10 pounds of force occasionally and possess the visual acuity to prepare data, proof work, and do extensive reading.
