CDC Awards Funding to Help Increase Vaccinations in the Community
On March 29, President Biden announced that the administration was taking further action to expand access to COVID-19 vaccines. One action included in this expansion is that, through a partnership between the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Administration for Community Living (ACL), ACL would provide nearly $100 million to help increase vaccinations among older adults and people with disabilities.

CEDS Implementation Update
The Centralina Economic Development District (EDD) launched the 2023-2028 Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS) Action Plan which serves as the region’s roadmap for supporting a diverse economy that ensures coordinated growth via the prosperity for all regional lenses. The CEDS Action Plan includes 26 urgent recommendations implemented during the next 24 months being led by the 28 regional subject matter experts across the region.
Protecting Construction Workers’ Wages on Federally Funded Projects: The Davis-Bacon Act
The Davis-Bacon Act requires that prevailing wages be paid on federally funded public works projects, such as construction, repair or alteration of public buildings, or construction of public roads or bridges. States must abide by the Davis-Bacon Act when federal funds are involved in public works projects within the state.
Centralina Wins NARC Award for Small Towns Thrive Initiative
The National Association of Regional Councils (NARC) presented their Achievement and Leadership Awards on Tuesday, June 25, 2024, during an awards ceremony held at its 58th Annual Conference & Exhibition in Atlanta, Georgia. Ten projects received 2024 Achievement Awards including Centralina Regional Council for its Small Towns Thrive initiative.
Grants Training Provides Strategies for Building Relationships with Funders
Earlier this month, Centralina Regional Council hosted a grants webinar, How to Establish and Maintain Excellent Grant Funder Relationships, as part of its Centralina Learns training series. Diane Leonard, a Grant Professional Certified and Approved Trainer of the Grant Professionals Association, led the session, which was designed to build and strengthen participants’ relationships with grant funders to increase their organizations’ grant revenue.

Centralina EDD Disaster Relief Coordinator Grant
In March 2020, the U.S. Economic Development Administration awarded the Centralina Economic Development District (EDD) the Centralina Disaster Relief Coordinator Grant. The grant award seeks to support the Centralina EDD’s regional emergency management system. Specifically, the project will provide local assessment of viability of existing emergency management plans and develop a regional emergency management strategy that includes evaluating the creation of a permanent regional disaster management roundtable.

Centralina WDB Welcomes New Board Member
Beatriz (Bea) Rodriguez, originally from Colombia, South America, has been appointed as the new Centralina Workforce Development Board(WDB) member. In her role with the Centralina WDB, Bea will represent the healthcare sector and Cabarrus County.
