Data matters because it identifies issues and informs decisions. Learn what regional data is available and how it can help communities make informed planning decisions but also build support and create opportunities for future change.

Panelists:

  • Bob Coats is an analyst in the Demographic and Economic Analysis section of the North Carolina Office of State Budget and Management (OSBM), the Governor’s Census Liaison, and the coordinator of the North Carolina State Data Center network – a dissemination partnership between the US Census Bureau and 45 affiliate organizations statewide.  Bob has worked with data in state government for over 25 years.
  • Dr. Michael Cline is the State Demographer of North Carolina and annually produces the official population estimates for the state, counties and municipalities. In addition, he prepares twenty-year population projections for counties and the state, advises state agencies and the Governor’s office regarding the implications of demographic change, and supports census related activities.  Mike is the author of several demographic related books.
  • David Cline is a geographer with the U.S. Census Bureau in the Field Division/Atlanta Regional Census Center.  The Census Bureau Regional Offices are responsible for data collection, data dissemination, and geographic operations. Census Bureau Regional Offices conduct continuous surveys—other than the once-a-decade population count—to supply the nation with important statistics on people, places and our economy.  David works on all segments of the Census including the Local Update of Census Addresses (LUCA) and the 2020 Census is his third Census experience.

Sessions will begin at 11:30 a.m. Session length 1.5 AICP CM credits. Co-sponsored by APA-NC Section 2.
